Ranger Service

We are a high profile service and are visible throughout the Park. You may see us as we patrol the Lagan Valley Regional Park on foot, cycle or in the Park's vehicle. Rangers interact with the public on a daily basis facilitating their enjoyment and appreciation of the Park. We assist with queries and also benefit from chatting to those who use the Park. The Ranger Service is responsible for delivering interpretative services throughout.

The LVRP Park Rangers patrol over 38km of paths and trails including the stretch of towpath running alongside the old Lagan Navigation from Belfast to Lisburn. Monitoring access routes and management operations throughout the Park. We play an important part in the monitoring and protection of local wildlife such as badgers and swans. The LVRP Rangers are often the first to discover or coordinate a response to incidents such as water pollution, tipping and fires.

We support a wide range of recreational events, providing an exciting annual programme of events and walks in the park, with over 44 events held last year. We also work with schools and community groups; liaise with landowners and the relevant agencies in the management and maintenance of sites; carry out practical tasks associated with conservation and recreational activities; train and supervise volunteers; collect scientific and other data; monitor the use of the Park and take appropriate action to ensure the health and safety of the public. We also carry out a variety of manual tasks such as repairs to fences, gates, stiles and litter picking - last year over 450 bags of litter were collected from the towpath and river.

The Ranger Service is out and about throughout the week, all year round, so if you see us, come and say hello!
