The Lagan Towpath is the most popular outdoor resource in Northern Ireland with over 1.4Million users recorded annually. It is a designated medium distance high quality walking route - see WalkNI. It is a quality section of the Ulster Way, forming a spur out to Lisburn and back through the Castlereagh Hills and it is part of the National Cycle Network.
Because of the high use the towpath gets we encourage the principle of considerate use for all by all.
The Towpath Code clearly states what is and what isn't permitted on the towpath.
Information on the towpath can be found on our towpath leaflet distributed locally and at Belfast and Lisburn tourist information offices.
