Discovery Morning

Friday 6th June

Continuing our popular series of short walks in the Lagan Valley Regional Park, Discovery Mornings are held on the first Friday of every month and are essentially a walk with one of the Regional Park Rangers on one of their patrols. Throughout the year the walks take a number of differing routes and the seasonal changes throughout the year mean that every month offers new and interesting aspects of our wildlife to lookout for.
Meet at Lisburn Island Centre, Lisburn ( at front of Civic Centre) at 11.00am

Grass Roots volunteer task

Sunday 8th June

One of Belfast's oldest practical conservation groups.

Grass Roots have been working in the Greater Belfast area for over 25 years on well-known sites such as Minnowburn, Colin Glen and along the River Lagan. They carry out all sorts of conservation volunteer tasks, from tree planting to dry stone walling, digging ponds to wildlife surveys and fencing to hedge-laying. Grass Roots undertake work throughout the Lagan Valley Regional Park. All work is carried out by volunteers and new members are welcome at any time. No experience is necessary - training is provided on the job. Transport can be arranged where necessary.

For details of Grass Roots conservation projects contact Mr Ken Orr on 028 9058 0339 and ask for a volunteer task sheet or email:grassrootsni@fastmail.fm

Return to Source

Thursday 12th June

Discover the source of the River Lagan on Slieve Croob amidst the rolling Dromara hills. As the River Lagan flows majestically into the Belfast Lough it is one of Northern Ireland’s greatest rivers, however, at its source this mighty watercourse is small enough to step over. There will be a stop to allow people to eat packed lunches. Limited onward transport provided.
Meet at Drumbridge car park at 10.00am

Cycle the Towpath

Saturday 21st June

As part of Cycle Week, Lagan Valley Regional Park is hosting a cycle ride along the Lagan towpath, which is part of the National Cycle Network. Why not get away from the bustle and hubbub of the city and join us for a scenic and tranquil ride through the Lagan Valley. This is an event that is suitable for the whole family. We will be stopping at Sir Thomas
and Lady Dixon Park for a break to allow participants to eat packed lunches on the way out with a refreshment stop again at Lagan Valley Island before the return journey.
Meet at Lockview car park, Stranmillis at 11.00am

Butterfly and Moth Walk

Saturday 28th June

Join the LVRP Ranger Service and the Butterfly Conservation Officer for Northern Ireland for a walk through the inspirational Lagan Meadows nature reserve, home of some of our most important species of wildflowers, butterflies and moths. Discover the fascinating world of Lepidoptera as moths are released from overnight traps and (weather permitting) see some of our locally endemic butterflies along the way.
Meet at Lockview car park, Stranmillis at 11.00am
