Discovery Morning

Friday 1st February

Continuing our popular series of short walks in the Lagan Valley Regional Park, Discovery Mornings are held on the first Friday of every month and are essentially a walk with one of the Regional Park Rangers on one of their patrols. Throughout the year the walks take a number of differing routes and the seasonal changes throughout the year mean that every month offers new and interesting aspects of our wildlife to lookout for. As on all our events suitable clothing and footwear are recommended. Suitable for all the family. The routes will include mixed terrain.
Meet at Shaw's Bridge car park at 11.00am

Along the trail (Lisburn)

Saturday 9th February

Join the LVRP Ranger Service as we walk the enjoyable and challenging 10km (6.2m) Lisburn Running Trail. This scenic, circular route provides an ideal opportunity for runners and walkers alike to test their fitness at their own pace. Mixed terrain.
Meet at Lisburn Valley Island Centre, Lisburn (at front of Civic Centre) at 11.00am

Broadwater Bird Watch

Saturday 16th February

Join LVRP staff and Lisburn City Council's Countryside Officer to see wintering wildfowl at the Broadwater on the upper reaches of the Lagan canal, Moira. This tranquil man-made respite from the heydays of the Lagan Navigation is now home to a number of resident and migatory wetland birds. The walk will be around 3 miles and we shall be stopping for lunch along the way so a packed lunch is recommended. Flat gravel paths.
Meet at Drumbridge car park at 10.00 am
Booking essential to ensure a place on transport to Broadwater.

Grass Roots Volunteer Task

Sunday 17th February

One of Belfast's oldest practical conservation groups.

Grass Roots have been working in the Greater Belfast area for over 25 years on well-known sites such as Minnowburn, Colin Glen and along the River Lagan. They carry out all sorts of conservation volunteer tasks, from tree planting to dry stone walling, digging ponds to wildlife surveys and fencing to hedge-laying. Grass Roots undertake work throughout the Lagan Valley Regional Park. All work is carried out by volunteers and new members are welcome at any time. No experience is necessary - training is provided on the job. Transport can be arranged where necessary.

For details of Grass Roots conservation projects contact Mr Ken Orr on 028 9058 0339 and ask for a volunteer task sheet or email: grassrootsni@fastmail.fm
